"Music doesn't lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music."
Jimi Hendrix
Music is the purest tangible product of the soul. Without it, the human race would be in more trouble than it already is.
But not all music is equal. Music, by definition is played by musicians. Musicians play instruments. Computers, and looping beats are not instruments. Today we are bombarded by shallow, soulless music and it brings us all down in ways that aren't always obvious.
This is why it is great that video games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band are making good music more popular again. The younger generation gets it. Sales of new music are dismal, but older music from a less sold out and shallow time is experiencing a rebirth. Sales of bands like AC/DC, Aerosmith, Metallica, and Pink Floyd are rising fast.
These two video games are largely responsible for this trend. The music industry has finally been exposed to the masses as a gutless, soulless chasm of suck. In the 60's and 70's especially, music meant something. It helped expose crooks like Nixon and crimes like The Vietnam War. Can anyone really say with a straight face that Brittney Spears helps change society for the better? Unfortunately the answer is yes, and these soulless sheep posing as human beings are helping bring society down and making people more ignorant to the power of real art.
At its best, music exposes the truth and unites people around a healthy way of thinking full of love but also disgust for all things evil and ugly. The music industry has hit rock bottom, and I'm glad people are starting to realize this.
I've been playing guitar for more than a decade now, and I can personally attest that playing music is an almost magical experience. It humbles you when you are feeling arrogant and lifts you up when you're feeling down. If you think playing guitar in a video game is fun, wait until you try the real thing! I've searched the web to find the best and most affordable guitar learning system, and if you want to experience music for yourself rather than just listening to it and playing video games,
